Role: UI/UX Designer, Visual Designer
For Burt’s Bees’ Nature Knows Color campaign, I designed the mobile website and created supporting desktop assets. I wanted the experience to feel as warm and approachable as the brand, while making it easy to explore lip color, find application tips, and choose the right product.
Working closely with the Burt’s Bees team, I developed wireframes and visual comps through several iterations. The challenge was to make the experience easy to navigate while preserving the natural textures, signature yellows, and botanical imagery that made the brand recognizable.
CHALLENGES
The mobile site needed to bring product browsing, beauty advice, and Katey Denno’s expert content together within limited screen space. The challenge was to keep navigation and content clear while preserving the campaign’s organic visual character and following Burt’s Bees’ established brand guidelines.
GOALS
Make exploration intuitive: Give visitors clear paths between lip-color categories, products, and practical advice.
Connect products with expertise: Integrate Katey Denno’s videos and makeup tips where they could support product discovery.
Keep the brand recognizable: Carry the Nature Knows Color aesthetic consistently across mobile and desktop.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Brought products and guidance together: Combined product information, tutorials, and expert tips in a coordinated mobile layout.
Connected campaign touchpoints: Created supporting desktop designs that shared the mobile experience’s visual language and product focus.
Refined the experience collaboratively: Used wireframes and successive comps to work through navigation and visual design with the client team.
NATURE KNOWS COLOR: PRODUCT STORY
I used botanical imagery and a clear product lineup to connect the lip-color range with the campaign’s natural inspiration. The desktop design balanced a strong opening visual with product information and expert advice, giving visitors several ways to explore without losing the brand’s warmth.
LIP SHADE FINDER
The shade finder turned product choice into a guided experience. I used a large flower and an invitation to answer four simple questions to make the entry point feel approachable, with Katey Denno’s presence connecting the tool to the campaign’s expert advice. A clear call to action gave the page a single next step.
MOBILE PRODUCT EXPLORATION & EXPERT TIPS
On mobile, I organized the experience around product categories, color advice, and video tutorials. The layouts carried the campaign’s yellows, honeycomb pattern, and botanical imagery into a smaller format, while prominent product imagery and Katey Denno’s tips helped visitors connect the advice with relevant products.
