As a leader in the lawn and garden industry, Pennington wanted to leverage its full desktop experience on the mobile platform to maximize potential user engagement. Pennington required a comprehensive site redesign to match their premium brand status. The objective was clear: to showcase their extensive selection of high-quality products intuitively, that would benefit users in their busy on-the-go lifestyle.
Challenges:
Intuitive Display & Navigation: Developing a method to intuitively display a vast array of products, ensuring ease of navigation on a mobile device.
Adapting Desktop Experience: Reimagining, and adapting, the desktop experience to smaller screens without sacrificing content and delivering the full experience.
Mobile-Specific Features: Leveraging the opportunities that come along with being mobile, utilizing the GPS to locate the nearest stores and show products relevant to your seed planting zone.
Goals:
Premium Visual Style: To convey a premium and trustworthy visual style, enriched with vivid visuals and intricate details that capture the spirit of horticulture and the joy of backyard gardening.
Organized Product Library: To organize an extensive product library with filters that categorize items by Brand, Characteristics, and Grass Types, ensuring smooth functionality on mobile devices.
Educational Engagement Everywhere: To educate consumers, regardless of their location, on the benefits and applications of the products. This includes providing a dedicated section for product information that explains the use case, the optimal time of year, and watering requirements, all in a format that makes it easier for customers to choose the right products, maintaining the same quality and information in a smaller form factor.
Accomplishments:
The mobile site met every expectation of being a highly engaging experience, and received more traction than its desktop counterpart, with visitors spending more time exploring products, returning for educational content, and consuming the library of tips/instructional videos.
